With more than 30 years’ experience in the construction industry, Bayaphambili Properties (previously D&F Homebuilders) is involved in all spheres of the built environment. The company has made a significant contribution to the private and public sector, building schools, houses and various infrastructure projects.

In 2006, Tony Freeman took over the family-run business after his father fell ill. Since then he has expanded the company’s footprint and construction activities.

Freeman says, “We mainly operated in KwaZulu-Natal but realized the potential for construction in Gauteng Province. We opened the Johannesburg office in 2009 and this has proven to be hugely beneficial to the business.”

“We discovered there is a niche market in the community development and social responsibility field. Thousands of houses, schools, clinics – most communities in general – still need housing, water and sewage .. this is apart from other basic human amenities such as health care, education, electricity, decent roads, etc. This requirement is even greater when one considers, mainly rural areas, in the rest of the country.

“We want to bring, housing, schools, water, roads and other modern-day amenities to communities around the country. This has become our passion and an important part of our business focus. Not only will it benefit the business, but also the communities in which we operate.

To this end, we are gearing up to employ professionals in the built environment, such as Civil, Structural and Mechanical Engineers, along with Quantity Surveyors, etc to diversify and enhance the effectiveness of the business” concludes Freeman.
